The Story Behind Tactical Magfed.
Hi, and welcome if you want to know more about tactical Magfed and how I started magfed paintball and making content, check out this page.
My name is Rob aka “Boris” I have created this website and a YouTube channel to help answer the many questions that new and existing players have about magfed paintball.
I first played paintball back in 1992 when I crazed my dad to take me and some friends for my birthday. We were all running around in Thetford forest with pump-action markers having a great time. Little did I know that paintball would keep drawing me back. I couldn’t afford to commit to my gear back then. So for several years I would play as a rental player but take my mask!
There has always been a frustrated soldier in me, so naturally, I veered towards the woodsball, scenario games and events. My first scenario marker was a Tippmann Sierra one (Project Salvo). Which I spent considerable time setting up to look the part. I upgraded most of the parts adding new internals, E-trigger, cyclone feed and barrel.
Even though the marker had the general look I wanted, and I could go to simulated games and events it was still missing something. I went to a Shoreline event called “Call to Duty” at Sennybridge, a purpose-built training village built by the MOD (Ministry of Defense) for FIBUA (fighting in built-up areas). This added another level of realism, but again something wasn’t quite right.
About this time, I met my now wife and paintballing has taken somewhat of a back seat for a few years to raise a young family. I would still get my fix heading out to local paintball fields as a walkon player. While I wasn’t able to get out as much as I wanted, I did get plenty of time to upgrade my gear! It was always my intention to convert my Tippmann Sierra one (Project Salvo) using one of the Rap4 (now Modern Combat Sports) magfed kits. Over the last couple of years, I have steadily converted my old Tippman into an MCS Blizzard, with all the bells and whistles.
Now magfed paintball has come into its own. The level of realism and reliability of the latest markers has moved the genre forward. Even entry-level markers like the Tippmann TMC have greater usability compared to the higher end markers of the past. With my blizzard kit build finished and working, it certainly gets people’s attention when I rocked up to walk-on events!
But for me, it still had some of the paintball marker features that limited the realism. Rather than a dedicated magfed marker. The Rap4\MCS 468 and the Tiberius Arms\First Strike T15 had been available for some time. My need for more realistic markers made it inevitable that I would take the plunge. Combined with the fact that First Strike also released their compact pistol (The FSC pistol), I couldn’t help myself. I dove straight in and bought myself an FSC and a T15!
But it hasn’t stopped there, I still have the desire to try and make my magfed experience the most exciting and realistic it can be. I love the idea that you can modify and adapt existing “real steel” gear, tactics, drills and training into the paintball universe. I started looking to modify my markers, adding red dot sights to my FSC pistol (and now my Umarex Walther PPQ M2 pistol!).
Learning how to strip them down, identify and replace\upgrade components and put them together again. This has given me a real understanding of how they work and what their capabilities are. I have started to combine this knowledge with the available gear, such as plate carriers, Kydex inserts, slings, mag pouches, pistol holsters and gun accessories. The more I test and drill with this gear the better the experience becomes, the more I want to explore the boundaries, practice realistic drills and mag changes.
There is a strange satisfaction when you have drilled a mag change or weapon transition and it becomes second nature. When you are in a gunfight with limited paint, it can be quite intense, often decided by who can get the most accurate shots on target the fastest. Being capable of transitioning weapons or changing magazines faster than your enemy may be the advantage that separates victory from a walk back to the safe zone.
I hope that this website and YouTube channel will help anyone looking for information on magfed paintball, providing an insight into the range of drills, equipment and tactics that can give you the advantage out on the field!
If you have any questions or want to say hi just drop me a line on any of the social channels. I’m always interested to know what questions you have and if my next piece of content can help get you an answer!
As always, stay safe and get tactical!
